1912-Joyce and his brothers added greeting cards to their bussiness because
postcards were going down in popularity. And, in 1913 they moved again to 1019 Grand Avenue. And in 1914 they published 20
engraved Christmas cards.
1915-January 11, a fire destroyed the
Hall Brother's shop. All of their inventory including Valentine's orders were destroyed. And, they are 17,000 $ in debt. Then,
they bought some new engraaveing presses and moved down the block to 1025 Grand Avenue and started makin their own cards.
1916-Open a store @ 113 East 11th Street.
1917-Open
their first humor cards. And, they started making gift wrap because they ran out of Christmas tissue.
1919-Hall
Brother's has 25 employies. And open another shop @ 1114 Grand Avenue. Friendship cards start.
1921-Joyce
marries Elizabeth Ann Dilday.
1923-The official name is changed to
Hall Brother's Inc. Now they have 120 workers and move to 26th and Walnut.
1924-flat
cards start. And famous mottos start in October.
1925-Hallmark is
put on products. There are 12 hired artists.Ribbons are added.Party invitations, seals, birth announcements, and dance programs
start along with calenders and sympathy acnowledgements.
1927-Joyce
buys a house with Elizabeth.
1928-Donal Joyce is born July 9. Hallmark
is on the back of all the cards. Their first add in Ladies Home Journal is published.
1931-Hallmarks
first color add is put in a Canadian magazine.
1932-Hallmark has
the right to use Disney characters.
1934-Hallmark is the first company
to have coffee breaks.
1943-First out of state shop is opened in
Topeka Kansas.
1949-The crown logo is introduced.
1950-Hallmark's
logo is registered as a trademark.
1956-The company moves to its
present location: 25th and Mcgee.They start the Career Rewards Program with insurance and profit sharing, and retirement.
1960-Hallmark's 50th anniversary. Peanuts characters appear.
